Healthy Again, Mashinter Gets Sent To Rockford By Blackhawks

(CBS) The Blackhawks have activated forward Brandon Mashinter from the injured reserve list and sent him down to the Rockford Icehogs of the AHL, they announced Monday. Mashinter had an undisclosed injury.

The Blackhawks acquired Mashinter from the Rangers in December 2013. He hasn't appeared in a regular-season game yet with Chicago. He did appear in three preseason games.

Mashinter agreed to a two-year contract with the Blackhawks last March, and while lamenting his injuries, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said in the preseason that, "I think at one point he's got a chance to play here."

Still, this move comes as little surprise given the strength of Chicago's top three lines and its curiosity to see how the fourth line plays together. So far, the Blackhawks have committed to getting a look Daniel Carcillo, Marcus Kruger and Jeremy Morin on the fourth line, and they figure to get some more time after Chicago earned wins in its first two games.

The Blackhawks host the Flames on Wednesday at the United Center.
