Hawk Harrelson Says Hemorrhoids Cost Him Chance At '68 Triple Crown

(CBS) White Sox play-by-play man Hawk Harrelson is certainly one of a kind.

And he only added to his unique legacy Thursday when he went on MLB's Network's "High Heat" and non-chalantly explained why he didn't win the 1968 Triple Crown -- a goal he'd set after the Red Sox's Carl Yastrzemski won it in 1967.

It had everything to do with a case of hemorrhoids.

"I said, 'I'm going to stick it up Carl's behind in '68,'" Harrelson said. "And that was my motivation. I was just gonna go ahead and play as hard as I could. And things worked out pretty good. In fact, I was going for the Triple Crown until I got the hemorrhoids."

From Deadspin:

Harrelson's longstanding complaint about hemorrhoids robbing him of glory in 1968 may actually be true; he hit .297 with 31 home runs and 99 RBI through August 15 that year, and .219 with four home runs and 10 RBI the rest of the way.

Listen below, if you must. It starts around the 2:40 mark.
