Harvey Aldermen Seek Outside Help To Fight "Corruption, Impropriety"
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Half the members of Harvey's City Council were calling for outside help to deal with what they call the plague of "corruption, impropriety and scandal."
Three of the six members of the Harvey City Council signed an open letter addressed to more than a dozen people, including President Barack Obama, FBI Director James Comey, Gov. Bruce Rauner, and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
They compared the letter to the Declaration of Independence, saying a trail of abuse and corruption by the administration of Mayor Eric Kellogg has led them to drastic action. The aldermen said they're worried about the fate of their city under Kellogg.
Among examples, they cited a 2007 raid on the Harvey Police Department, which turned up 200 unprocessed rape kids, most of which were no longer viable. They also pointed to unpaid city bills and violations of the Open Meetings Act.
The letter caps a long-running feud between Kellogg and his opponents.
In a response, Kellogg disputed their allegations, and called the letter "highly politicized."
