Hall Of Famer, Former Bears Great Doug Atkins Passes Away

(CBS) Hall of Fame defensive end and former Bears great Doug Atkins died Wednesday at the age of 85, the Hall of Fame confirmed to NFL.com.

Atkins played 12 seasons for the Bears, from 1955-'66. During that span, he was an eight-time Pro Bowler and was named first-team All-Pro in 1963, when he was a major force on Chicago's championship team.

Sandwiched around his tenure with the Bears, Atkins began his career with the Browns and finished it with the Saints. He played 17 seasons and 205 games in all.

Atkins passed away in Knoxville, Tenn., according to NFL.com.
