Hales Franciscan High School Trying To Raise $300K To Stay Open

(CBS) -- One of Chicago's most prestigious Catholic high schools is in danger of closing for good.

Hales Franciscan High School in the Bronzeville neighborhood says it needs to raise $300,000 in four weeks or the school will shut down.

Administrators think that's doable:

"I think what the school does in this neighborhood for the kids is maybe the reason -- even in four weeks -- there might be an opportunity to connect with someone who sees the story who wants to help," vice chairman Pat Eilers.

Hales Franciscan has a 95-to-100-percent graduation rate each year and nearly all the students go on to college.

Hales has about 100 students enrolled right now. It had an enrollment of more than 400 more than 20 years ago.

A Go Fund Me website has been set-up to help the school if you would like to make a donation.
