Halal Guys, NY's Iconic Street Meat Purveyors, Coming To Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The New York meat invasion continues, with news that Halal Guys plans to open five locations in the Chicago area.

This fall brought burger maker Shake Shack to the city, and now Halal Guys, famous for its New York street meat offerings, will open its first Chicago restaurant in the Gold Coast.

Halal Guys began has a single street cart in the 1990s, selling chicken, beef, and gyros platters topped with their signature red and white sauces.

The Chicago opening is part of a massive expansion for Halal Guys, which is now aiming to become "the Chipotle of Middle Eastern food."

Halal acknowledged the Chicago expansion on its Facebook page.

The first Chicago location is expected to open this summer at 49 W. Division St. just east of the CTA Red Line stop.
