Gunman Arrested After He Pulls Weapon Near Police Station

(CBS) -- A man is charged with pointing a gun at police officers and other people near a Far South Side police station Monday morning.

Clyde Freeman, 29, was arrested in the 700 block of East 111th Street about 7:15 a.m., after people approached Calumet District officers and said he pointed a weapon at them, according to a police statement.

Nick Ervin tells CBS 2 he and his friends were in a car when a man with a gun tapped on the window. When they told him he was trying to rob them outside a police station, he moved off, they said.

Officers then spotted Freeman inside a vehicle holding a weapon, which he allegedly pointed at police, police said.

He was arrested and the weapon was recovered, police said.

Freeman, of the 7500 block of South Ridgeland, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault to a peace officer, two counts of aggravated assault using a deadly weapon, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for a bond hearing.
