1 Killed, 1 Wounded In Shooting At South Side Bar

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A person was in custody Friday morning, after two people were shot, one of them fatally, inside a bar in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Police responded to a shooting at The 50 Yard Line Sports Bar & Grill, 69 E 75th St., around 1:40 a.m.

Investigators said a 29-year-old man was shot in the stomach and a 32-year-old man was shot in the leg. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital. The younger man later was pronounced dead, while the older man was listed in serious condition.

A worker at the bar said a misunderstanding and argument escalated into gun violence.

"I've been to this place for years. This has never happened here; never on the inside. I've never saw this; ever, ever in my life. I've been coming here for like 20 years," Thomasina Hunt said. "It was uncalled for. It was unjustice. Whoever got shot didn't deserve to get shot. Whoever they was shooting at didn't deserve to get shot at. That happens all the time. We've got innocent people out here getting shot."

Hunt said her son was with her when shots rang out, and she pulled him to the floor with her.

A 26-year-old woman who also was inside the club was struck by a car as she was fleeing the shooting. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.

Sources said one of the men might have been a security guard, but police have not confirmed that information.

Police said a person was in custody Friday morning, and charges were pending.
