Greater Grand Crossing Fire Leaves At Least 10 People Homeless

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A fire spread to three homes in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood overnight, sending several people out into the streets in their pajamas.

Nearly 150 firefighters helped extinguish the blaze, which started around 1 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Drexel Avenue.

It was not immediately clear what started the fire, but it started in one 2 ½-story home, and spread to two neighboring houses. Firefighters did not have it under control until around 5:30 a.m.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, including one who suffered chest pains.

No other injuries were reported, but at least ten people were left homeless, because the fire left their homes uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
