Great America Delays Opening Of New Roller Coaster

GURNEE, Ill. (CBS) -- Six Flags Great America has delayed the opening of its newest thrill ride, billed as the fastest and steepest wooden roller coaster in the world.

The new roller coaster "Goliath" was slated to open Saturday, May 31, but thrill-seekers will have to wait a little longer to ride it.

A spokeswoman told the Waukegan News-Sun the opening has been rolled back due to some delays on putting the final touches on the ride.

The amusement park has posted videos of the completion of the roller coaster's 165-foot tall, nearly 85-degree drop; and the final section of track which leaves riders hanging upside down. Great America has said the roller coaster will reach speeds of up to 72 mph
