Gov. Rauner Prepared To Back Eventual GOP Presidential Nominee, Even Donald Trump

(CBS) -- Governor Bruce Rauner said he's prepared to back Donald Trump if he wins the GOP Presidential nomination, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

Governor Rauner has been loath to talk about the Republican primaries up to now but with fellow businessman Donald Trump moving steadily closer to the nomination, the governor said he will back whoever ends up being the nominee, including Trump.

"I will support the Republican Party's nominee for president," Rauner said. "I will do everything I can to work with that nominee."

Why would he back Trump as nominee when some other Republicans are hesitant?

"I'm the leader of the Republican Party in Illinois," Rauner said.

He never actually mentioned Trump's name to reporters and wouldn't discuss any particular candidate.
