Gov. Quinn, Rauner Trade Barbs Over Budget Plans

(CBS) -- The budget debate between Democrat Governor Pat Quinn and Republican rival Bruce Rauner now includes accusations of "flim-flamming" and "flip-flopping, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

Asked about Republics businessman Bruce Rauner's budget proposal including phasing out the soon-to-expire income tax increase, Governor Quinn was dismissive, calling it "flim-flam."

"What we heard last week was a dishonest budget proposal that is completely blowing a hole of about $8.5 billion into our budget in Illinois," Quinn said.

Quinn says Rauner's plan to expand the state sales tax to cover more services is a bad idea and calls it the "Rauner tax."

That is something that seems to amuse Bruce Rauner, who calls it "political spin."
"In the past, when Quinn wasn't flip-flopping, he actually supported a broadening of the state sales tax," Rauner said.

Rauner says it is Quinn that wants to tax people more.
