Listen to Schools Gets Help From Gourmet Chef

Nabor Vasquez, the head chef at the well-known Nieto's restaurant in Highland Park, says he wanted to help because his son attended the nursery school which needed help feeding the kids.

Nursery school Executive Director Pam Carlson says she filled in for two days making sandwiches and snacks for the 80 nursery school pupils, but then put the word out she could use some assistance.

She said Vasquez responded and is handling the nursery school cooking slot in the mid-mornings before he assumes his normal duties as head chef at Nieto's.

Vasquez says so far, he's just turning out the lunches and snacks the kids know.

Carlson says she believes he'll boosting the culinary voltage once he's familiar with the facilities in the Highland Park Community Nursery, 1850 N Green Bay Road.
