Girl, 19 Months, Found Dead In Wooded Area In Riverdale

RIVERDALE, Ill. (CBS) -- The body of a 19-month-old girl was found Sunday afternoon in a wooded area in south suburban Riverdale, authorities said.

About 3:25 p.m., Riverdale police received a call from a person who reported finding the child's body while walking in the area of the 14000 block of South Normal Avenue.

According to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, the girl's body was found in a wooded area.

Family members identified the girl as Ameriah Roberson, 19 months.

She was pronounced dead at the scene about 7 p.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner's office. The office says Roberson was assaulted and died from trauma to her head.

Chicago Police are investigating whether the body may be that of a child from the 3500 block of South Rhodes Avenue in the South Side Douglas neighborhood who was reported missing about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

The child was with an adult who walked away for a brief moment, then returned to find the child missing, police said, citing preliminary information.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is investigating along with Riverdale police.
