Gary Police Investigate Connection Between Two Fatal Shootings

(STMW) -- Gary police are questioning a person of interest in connection to the two fatal shootings in northwest Indiana alleys Saturday.

At 7 a.m., officers responded to a call in an alley in the 800 block of Ohio Street and found a female, whose age was not immediately available, "with an apparent gunshot wound," according to a statement from Gary police. She was pronounced dead at 8:25 a.m., and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Lake County coroner.

About eight hours later, a male was found in an alley in the 2000 block of West 2nd Avenue at 3 p.m., police said. The male, whose age was not immediately known, suffered a gunshot wound and blunt force trauma, according to the coroner.

He was pronounced dead at 3:44 p.m., and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the coroner.

Police said Saturday night that a person of interest was taken into custody in regards to the homicides.

"The investigations are still in the early stages however there does appear to be a connection between the two victims," police said.
