Garage Fire Displaces 19 People, Including 4 Children, In Brighton Park

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A fire broke out at a garage in Brighton Park, displacing 19 people, including four children.

The first started at a building near Francisco Avenue and 35th Street and spread to other garages and a home.

"Once we got water on the garages we encountered also problems with down powerlines," said Deputy District Chief Peter Van Dorpe.

Crews had to wait until the power was shut off to enter the building.

Due to emergency crews, 35th Street were closed between Francisco and California avenues.

Red Cross crews were on the scene and a warming bus was brought in to help those displaced.
