Gang Members Convicted In Little Village Girl's Murder

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two Latin King gang members were convicted Tuesday of murdering a 6-year-old girl as she sat on her porch with relatives in the Little Village neighborhood.

Minutes after a jury returned guilty verdicts for 21-year-old Juan Barraza, Cook County Judge Stanley Sacks convicted 19-year-old Luis Hernandez for Aliyah Shell's murder.

Hernandez confessed he saw Aliyah and a 2-year-old on the porch as he aimed at a rival gang member but he fired anyway, prosecutors maintain.

Hernandez allegedly told authorities he was a Latin King and wanted to kill a rival Two-Six street gang member that afternoon on March 17, 2012.

When Hernandez pointed his gun out of the passenger side window of the pickup Barraza was driving, Hernandez said he saw two adults and two young kids on a porch in the 3100 block of South Springfield, prosecutors said.

Hernandez yelled "TSK" — for "Two-Six Killer" — and "What's up, b——?" Then he opened fire, prosecutors said.

Aliyah was hit several times in the abdomen. She later died at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
