Funeral Services Set For Firefighter Daniel Capuano

(STMW) -- The funeral services for firefighter Daniel Capuano has been set for Thursday and Friday, the Chicago Fire Department announced Tuesday.

The visitation will be held at St. Rita High School at 7720 S. Western between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday, according to the fire department. The services will be held at St. Rita's at 10 a.m., and the internment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at 6001 W. 111th St. in Alsip.

Capuano, 42, was killed early Monday while battling a blaze at a vacant warehouse in the South Chicago neighborhood where alleged "unauthorized work" was being done. He was searching through heavy smoke on the second floor when he fell down the elevator shaft into the basement.

"We hope you can keep the Capuano family in your prayers and the department members who worked with him. This is devastating to the family," Chicago Fire Commissioner Jose Santiago said.

The 15-year veteran of the department left behind a wife and three children.
