It's been almost two weeks since a Chicago Police officer shot and killed LeGrier and 55-year-old Bettie Jones, this after LeGrier's father called police saying his son was threatening him with a baseball bat.

"I fought nine years in court to get my son and the system robbed me of my son," said Antonio LeGrier, Quintonio's father.

LeGrier's foster mother and mother, Janet Cooksey, shared a hug in the midst of the ceremony, bringing tears to many.

"Quintonio was marvelous," said Cooksey. "He said I was an outstanding and sensational mom, but he was the outstanding one."

The 19-year-old was also remembered by his students and teachers at Gwendolyn Brooks Academy where he graduated in 2014.

While many celebrated his life during the two-hour long service, others asked for unity as they continue to fight for justice.

During the ceremony, it was announced that Gwendolyn Brooks Academy named a scholarship after LeGrier. The students there raised $15,000 to help the family pay for funeral expenses.
