Friends Help Raise Funeral Expenses For Slain Lane Tech Alum

(CBS) -- Friends, coaches and others are trying to help the family of a slain Lane Tech alum cover funeral expenses.

Aaron Bennett was a stand-out runner, says his former coach, Kris Roof.

"He was a talent, a real talent," he says.

From the track, to the drumline to representing the ROTC in a city parade -- or just being a regular teen at prom -- there wasn't much Bennett didn't do.

On Oct. 28, he was driving on the 2700 block of North Central Avenue. Police say there was an argument, and someone pulled out a gun and shot into Bennett's car.

The 19-year-old, who was struck in the head, died the next day.

A former school counselor started a GoFundMe account to help offset some of the funeral expenses.

No one is in custody for the death, police say.
