Frank Lloyd Wright Home Price Slashed To Sell In Highland Park

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- For about four years, a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Highland Park has languished on the market.

Curbed Chicago is making an appeal for somebody to buy the home and give it the care it deserves.

The asking price has been slashed from the $1.4 million 2011 asking price to $849,000.

The home has four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, with a small kitchen, especially by modern standards. The home has original glass in the windows, along with other classic Prairie Style characteristics.

According to Curbed Chicago, the home is in need of renovations that could reach well into six figures.

George Madison Millard and his wife, Alice, had Wright design the Highland Park house in 1906.

The Millards moved to Pasadena, Calif., in 1913 and after George died, Alice had Wright design her Pasadena home in 1923.

That home, recognized as one of Wright's most significant for its Usonian design, is also for sale for nearly $4 million.

Both Millard homes are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which can also be a deterrent to potential buyers who may have to comply with standards to preserve the historic nature of the property.
