Former Woodridge Trainer Gets Four Years For Abusing Young Athlete

WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) -- A former Lifetime Fitness trainer convicted of sexually abusing a teenage athlete was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday.

Robert Theodore, 61, entered a blind plea of guilty to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse on Dec. 2, 2013, a statement from the DuPage County Sheriff's office said.

Theodore, of west suburban Woodridge, was a track and triathlon trainer at Lifetime Fitness when he started training a 16-year-old boy, the release said.

Eventually, Theodore started sexually abusing the boy at his home, the boy's home and the local gym where they trained, the release said.

On September 11, 2012, Theodore was charged with having inappropriate sexual contact with the boy after an investigation by Naperville police and the DuPage County Children's Center, the release said.

DuPage County Judge Blanche Hill Fawell sentenced Theodore to four years in prison at a hearing Wednesday, the release said..

"Mr. Theodore used his position as a trusted coach to take advantage of a young innocent boy in the worst possible way," State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said in the release. "His vile actions are not those of a coach who is devoted to the physical and emotional development of a young athlete, but are those of a sexually deviant man who cared nothing about his victim and the pain and suffering he caused."
