Former Governor Pat Quinn Endorses Kim Foxx In Cook County State's Attorney Race
(CBS) --Former Governor Pat Quinn is picking sides in the Cook County state's attorney race, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty.
Citing her integrity and independence, former Governor Quinn is endorsing Kim Foxx for state's attorney.
"No one is entitled to another four-year term, you have to earn it," Quinn said. "I think looking at the record, I decided, and I thought a lot about this, that the best person for the next four years to restore trust in the justice system is Kim Foxx."
Quinn did endorse Anita Alvarez when she first ran in 2008. He says her handling of the Laquan McDonald case was a factor in his decision this time around.
Alvarez's campaign manager said, "To the surprise of no one, career politician Pat Quinn, who has been the beneficiary of hundreds of thousands in campaign spending by Toni Preckwinkle, is now backing her political puppet Kim Foxx."
Alvarez says she's not seeking endorsements of politicians because she has kept politics out of her decisions while in office.
Donna More, a former local and federal prosecutor who is also running for state's attorney, says she's the only true independent.
She categorizes the race as "a fight between titans here. Between Toni Preckwinkle and Mike Madigan wanting to have control over who gets indicted."
