Former Bull Rick Brunson Charged With Attempted Rape

VERNON HILLS, Ill. (AP) -- Former NBA player Rick Brunson -- a onetime Chicago Bulls player, later an assistant coach -- has been charged with sexual assault in connection with an alleged encounter with an employee of a suburban Chicago fitness center.

Vernon Hills police say the 42-year-old Brunson was charged June 25 with attempted criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual abuse and aggravated battery. The charges were filed after Brunson allegedly grabbed an employee of Lifetime Fitness. His bond was set at $5,000. However, a court date hasn't been announced.

Brunson hasn't responded to telephone calls seeking comment.

Brunson played for eight NBA teams from 1997 to 2006. He's been an assistant coach for several college and pro teams, including the Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Bobcats.

Lifetime Fitness spokesman Jason Thunstrom says the company is cooperating with authorities and conducting an internal investigation.
