Former Bears kicker Robbie Gould takes over as coach at St. Viator in Arlington Heights
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (CBS) -- Former Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould is taking over as the new head varsity football coach at St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights.
St. Viator President Ryan Aiello announced Tuesday that Gould had been selected after a nationwide search.
"During our numerous conversations, I learned that Coach Gould is much more than a former Chicago Bears star kicker and tenth-highest-leading scoring NFL player of all time," Aiello wrote. "He is a consummate family man, a brilliant football mind, an exceptional communicator, and a charismatic and kind leader.
Aiello wrote that Gould has already met with St. Viator football players.
Previously, Gould most recently served as football coach at Rolling Meadows High School—a position he took in February. Gould said he spent the season before helping out the football team at Fremd High School in Palatine.
Gould, 42, played for the Bears for 11 seasons, from 2005 through 2015, when he was released by the team. He appeared in 166 games.
Gould played for one season with the New York Giants, and then for the San Francisco 49ers until he retired in December 2023.
Gould scored 1,961 points in his career and ranks No. 10 in NFL history.
