Forest Park Reservists Back Home From Afghanistan
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Twenty Army Reservists belonging to the 300th Personnel Company are back home, after 10 months in Afghanistan.
The Forest Park-based unit's primary job was to deliver mail and packages, sell stamps and process money orders for those fighting.
They were honored Thursday night at a pasta-and-sausage dinner hosted by Forest Park Mayor Anthony Calderone, who saw them off last December.
The soldiers say they were perhaps the most popular soldiers there, because everyone hoped for something from home, even those who had access to the Internet.
Spc. Casey Dome said many do not, however; and those who had no other way to communicate were especially thankful to see them with a letter of package.
The unit has not been told it will be redeployed, but the 20 say they're ready to return if needed.
