Forbes Values Cubs At $2.2B, White Sox At $1.05B

(CBS) The Cubs are worth $2.2 billion according to an estimate by Forbes that was released Wednesday, making them the fifth-most valuable franchise in baseball.

The White Sox were valued at $1.05 billion, which checks in at No. 16 in the estimated worth. The Yankees were deemed to be the most valuable, at $3.4 billion.

The Cubs' revenue was estimated at $340 million in 2015, with an operating income of $51 million, according to Forbes. They won 97 games and advanced to the NLCS last season.

Just two years ago, the Cubs were estimated to be worth $1.2 billion.

The White Sox had $240 million in revenue in 2015, per Forbes, with an operating income of $20 million. They went 76-86 last season.
