Flame From Fuel Burn-Off At North Shore Gas Facility In Libertyville To Light Up Sky

(CBS) -- Residents of Libertyville and Grayslake will see some daytime fireworks all this week, as North Shore Gas burns off excess propane gas, reports WBBM's John Cody.

The company says it will burn off the gas during the day through Saturday from a 15-foot pipe.

The display promises to be spectacular at times, with a flame flare 40 to 50 feet high, 15 feet wide from the pipe on the southwest corner of Peterson Road and Route 45.

North Central Metra commuters should also be able to see it, as its just east of the tracks between Prairie Crossing and Mundelein Stations.

North Shore Gas says it needs to burn off the propane before it can retire the tanks. All the usable gas has been removed and the easiest way to get rid of the rest is to burn it.
