Five Wounded In Thanksgiving Day Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least five men were wounded in shootings on the South and West sides Thursday during the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

In the most recent shooting, a man was seriously wounded in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The man, 50, was shot in the left leg about 9:40 p.m. in the 4100 block of West Wilcox, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

About 6:05 p.m., a man was shot in the South Side Grand Boulevard neighborhood.

The 24-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 500 block of East Bowen when two males walked out of a nearby gangway and fired shots, police said. The shooters then ran away. The man was shot in the left hand and taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.

About 90 minutes earlier, a man with a gunshot wound to the hip walked into a west suburban hospital and told authorities he was shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The man, 23, was shot in the hip and walked into West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park about 4:35 p.m., police said. His condition later stabilized. The man told investigators he was shot in the 5000 block of West Division. Police said he is a documented gang member.

About 2 p.m., a man was shot in the South Shore neighborhood.

The 20-year-old was standing on the sidewalk in the 7000 block of South East End Avenue when three people walked up and fired shots from multiple weapons, before running away, police said. He was shot in the buttocks and taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized. Police said the man is a documented gang member.

The first shooting of the holiday left a man injured Thursday morning in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

The man, 36, was walking in the 5700 block of South Sangamon about 11:10 a.m. when he saw someone in a gray vehicle start shooting, police said.

He tried to run, but realized he had been shot in the calf, police said. He took himself to St. Bernard Hospital and was treated in good condition.

The man shot is a documented gang member, a police source said.
