Five Seriously Injured In Belmont-Cragin Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person has been arrested after a crash that seriously injured five people Friday morning in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood.

Police said two cars heading south on Cicero Avenue collided just before the intersection at Armitage Avenue around 2:15 a.m.

One car hit a CTA bus shelter, and came to rest at a fire hydrant at the corner. The other car came to a stop about 100 feet north.

Five people were taken to hospitals in serious to critical condition.

The intersection was closed for nearly six hours as investigators tried to determine what caused the crash.

Police said one person was in custody, but it was not immediately clear why.
