Five Kids, Two Adults Hurt In Jackson Park Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Five children and two adults are in critical condition after a minivan crashed into a tree and burst into flames Tuesday night in Jackson Park.

A 2001 Mercury van was headed west on Marquette Drive near Richards Drive when it hit a tree, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Three children were taken to Comer Children's Hospital while two others were taken to Lurie Children's Hospital, fire officials said.

Two adults were also taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. All seven occupants are in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs said.

Police said their injuries were not life threatening.

Authorities could not provide exact ages for the children, but did say they were all under 15.
