First Perennials Blooming At Lurie Garden In Millennium Park
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The first few perennials are blooming across the five acres of the Lurie Garden in Millennium Park.
"As you can see, the garden has been cut back. We cut it back two days ago. We use a lawnmower," said Laura Ekasetya, head horticulturist at Lurie Garden. "The first crocus - I noticed the first bloom just after the cutback. It was a little bit battered and I fluffed it up and took a photo. And just today, many many opened while I was out in the garden sweeping. It was interesting."
WBBM: So any estimate as to how many... What's the plural of crocus?
"I had to look that up for a blog I wrote about it once. Croci and crocuses are both acceptable."
Ekasetya says there are about 100 crocuses now.
Next: the tulips, which are starting to come up, then allium, summer beauty and salvia in four different shades of purple and blue.
