CHICAGO (CBS) -- The likes of Steinbeck, Kerouac, Hemingway and Dr. Seuss will be showcased in the country's first ever Writers Museum here in Chicago, reports WBBM's Lisa Fielding.

The first-of-its-kind museum will be located in an 8,500 square foot space at 180 North Michigan Ave. The American Writers Museum will feature interactive exhibits about some of our favorite writers' lives and literary works.

"It will be an opportunity to delve into the lives of these writers," said Nike Whitcomb, the museum's executive director. "What influenced them, how they grew up, what were there circumstances, what prompted them to be writers, where did they get there inspiration, all of that sort of thing."

Whitcomb says hundreds of American authors, poets and playwrights will be featured. There also will be a Readers Hall where the museum will host films, talks, readings and presentations to schools and other groups.

The museum is set to open in early 2017.
