Firefighter Hurt, Dog Killed In Geneva House Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A dog was killed Wednesday afternoon in a west suburban house fire that also injured a Geneva firefighter.

The homeowner called for help just before 2 p.m. after coming home to find the blaze in the 700 block of Redwing Drive, according to the Geneva Fire Department. No people were inside.

Thick, dark smoke billowed from the two-story house as flames shot out the back of it, fire officials said. The fire was under control by 2:36 p.m.

A firefighter suffered a minor injury at the scene. The family's dog was found dead.

The house sustained severe damage that left it uninhabitable, officials said. The cause is under investigation.
