Fire Causes Major Damage At St. Charles Restaurant

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A popular west suburban eatery was left uninhabitable after a fire Wednesday morning.

WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports the fire alarm sounded at The Office Dining & Spirits, at 201 E. Main St. in St. Charles, around 6 a.m.

Fire Chief Joe Schelstreet said firefighters arrived within a minute, and saw smoke coming from the roof, which was closed at the time.

Once inside, crews discovered fire burning in the ceiling of the kitchen. It took about an hour to put it out, the chief said.

The fire caused more than $100,000 in damage, leaving a hole in the roof, and smoke and water damage inside.

Schelstreet said the fire did not appear to be suspicious, but the cause was still under investigation.
