Feds Investigate Missing-Mail Complaints In Lake Forest

(CBS)—Federal authorities are investigating complaints from Lake Forest residents that letters and checks were not being delivered.

It isn't known how widespread the problem may be. But officials are focusing on the zip code of 60045, CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.

Business owner Michael Beacham says he noticed a problem in October. Nine times his mail has seemingly vanished, and medical information never arrived. Checks were never received nor cashed.

"Imagine the supplier that didn't receive four checks from me," Beacham says.

A special agent from the Office of the Investigator General's Office tells CBS 2 their findings may be turned over to the U.S. Attorney's Office for potential prosecution.
