Father Of Armed Man Fatally Shot By Police In Highland Park Hospital Questions Officers' Conduct
(CBS) -- The Lake County state's attorney has determined that Highland Park police were justified when they shot and killed an armed man inside a hospital last week - but the man's father tells WBBM he still has a lot of questions.
The Lake County state's attorney deemed the shooting of 27-year-old Christopher Anderson justified and says that actions of the two police officers were reasonable and appropriate.
It happened early on the morning of November 3 after Anderson had been taken to Highland Park Hospital after a traffic accident.
Police say he became aggressive and pulled out a handgun, then wouldn't drop it. Two officers shot and killed Anderson, firing nine rounds in less than two seconds.
Christopher Anderson's father Gerald says he cannot believe a shooting like that would be called justified. And he wonders why officers didn't use a taser.
"That's what they normally do is try to apprehend a person and fire a taser first. So I don't know why they didn't. The first choice is... two cops shooting off nine bullets? Really? On one guy? Inside a hospital? That's uncalled for."
Highland Park police say they repeatedly told Anderson to drop his weapon, but he refused.
