Farmers' Almanac Predicts 'Bone Cold' Winter

CHICAGO (CBS) -- If you are one who likes to plan ahead for winter weather, here is some advice: buy a puffy coat.

Extra hats, scarves and mittens and snow boots, too.

"It's going to be bone cold," said Farmers' Almanac editor Peter Geiger. "It is just one of those winters that will be very, very cold."

The first snow is anticipated in mid-November.

Then, a foot of snow will fall between Dec. 8-11.

Brutal sub-zero cold is in the offing for February.

That's a stark contrast to last year's more temperate winter.

The Almanac has relied on the same mathematical formula for nearly 200 years, which takes into account sun spot activity, planet positions and the effect of the moon on the Earth.
