Family Of Rachel Mellon To Hold Special Service 20 Years After Her Disappearance

(CBS) -- It has been 20 years since the disappearance of 13-year-old Rachel Mellon from her home in Bolingbrook and in a few days her friends and family will be marking the anniversary with a special service.

Flash back to January 20, 1996.

"It was my 13th birthday party, so it was about 10 days before she disappeared," said Carrie Johnson Scaglione.

Scaglione is 33 now. She was Rachel Mellon's best friend.

On the Find Rachel Facebook page, they've posted a video from that party - of 13-year-old Rachel wishing Carrie Happy Birthday.

For years after Rachel disappeared, Carrie says she couldn't look at that video. Now she has two children, including a daughter named for Rachel.

"I bring it out from time to time," she said. "It's not something that's completely easy for me. But it keeps her face alive in my household."

The service marking 20 years since Rachel disappeared will be Sunday, January 31, at 2 p.m., at BJ Ward School, 200 Recreation Drive, Bolingbrook.
