Family Of Man Fatally Struck By Wheeling Police SUV Files Lawsuit

(CBS) -- A wrongful death suit has been filed by the family of the 20-year-old man who was struck and killed Sunday by a Wheeling Police squad car, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.

Attorney Erron Fisher represents the family of Fredi Morales. He says police have offered a variety of explanations and alleged facts and asks if a chase was really necessary.

"The family, over all else, would like to know exactly what happened and if there are steps that can be taken to prevent this from happening again, prevent traffic pursuit citations without lights and sirens in the dark in a residential neighborhood," Fisher said.

Fisher goes to court in the morning seeking squad car video. He says Morales' father died, leaving him as the family bread winner. His mother and three siblings live in Mexico.
