Family Marks 5th Anniversary Of Arianna Gibson's Murder

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The family of a slain 6-year-old girl remembered their daughter Sunday, on the 5th anniversary of her death.

Arianna Gibson was shot while sleeping on the couch in a friend's home after a neighborhood block party.

It's the second year in a row that Demitta Collins organized a celebration of her daughter's life. She gathered friends and family for a barbecue.

Detectives questioned a 19-year-old man about the shooting, but later released him without charges. The case remains unsolved.

Collins said she's certain someone knows who was on the porch and shot into the window of the home that night, killing Arianna, who was supposed to start first grade the next day Her mother asked anyone with information to call Chicago police.

Dawn Valenti, a crisis responder with Chicago Survivors, came to join the family to remember Arianna. She said the solutions to gun violence are the community coming forward with what they know and changes in state and federal laws.
