Family, Friends Mourning 16-Year-Old Boy Shot And Killed On South Side
(CBS) -- Family and friends are mourning the loss of another Chicago teenager, shot to death Sunday night on the city's South Side as police search for leads and a motive, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.
Sixteen-year-old Andre Taylor was walking near his home at 100th and Indiana just before 8 p.m. when he was shot in the head and killed.
He had just walked his girlfriend to the bus according to a neighbor and was almost back home. A number of people heard the shots, but it's not clear whether there were any witnesses.
The victim's cousin, Sheila Clifton, says Taylor had been harassed recently. He was an honor roll student at Percy Julian High School and on the swim team, she says. He had just visited Marquette University in October with his cousin.
"He was a good kid. Never got into any trouble or anything like that. The family is distraught, of course," Clifton says.
Relatives and friends writing on social media said he was a good kid with a lot of promise. Taylor was also reported to have been active in the organization Becoming A Man, or BAM, some of whose members have met with President Barack Obama.
Surveillance video shows Taylor moments before he was shot and killed. He had just walked his girlfriend to a bus stop. You see the bus leaving as he crosses the street. He enters the parking area of a nearby gas station. The teen repeatedly looks over his shoulder, as he makes his way through a back fence and into an alley to head home.
Sources tell CBS 2 Taylor did not have gang ties.
