January 24th marks the anniversary of the first COVID-19 case in Illinois, the nation's second at the time. Since then, our lives have changed in nearly every single way.

You've heard the daily updates on the number of cases and the number of deaths, but it's important to bring some context to those numbers. The people who lost their lives during the pandemic are more than just a number. They're parents, friends, neighbors, and teachers. They're our street vendors, nurses, mail carriers, and so much more. They've saved lives and they've inspired, and they deserve to be remembered. Below are just some of the lives lost in Illinois to COVID-19 told by the people who loved them most.
