Evanston's Dave's Italian Kitchen Suddenly Closes
CHICAGO (CBS) -- After more than four decades serving up affordable, homemade Italian favorites, the venerable Evanston restaurant Dave's Italian Kitchen abruptly announced that is was no longer open for business.
The restaurant's website simply says: "We're Closed Forever. Thank You."
During its 40-plus year run, Dave's, 1635 Chicago Avenue, was a favorite among locals and Northwestern students for its inexpensive, generous Italian fare.
Fans flooded Dave's Facebook page to lament the news.
Many people said they had dined there since the 1970s, while others remembered first dates and even engagements.
Here is Dave's menu from 2015:
One reviewer on Yelp summed the Dave's experience best: "Great Italian comfort food, great service, great prices."
Dave's was also featured on WTTW's "Check, Please."
The Daily Northwestern reported that the Evanston City Council presented the restaurant's owners, Dave and Ellen Glatt, keys to the city on Monday, but neither were able to attend.
