Evanston Police Warn Unauthorized Flier Could Be Scam

(CBS) -- A flier reported by residents of north suburban Evanston could be a scam, police said.

The flier, titled Operation Safe Home, says it is for an organization that will paint a home's address on the curb in exchange for a $20 donation, Evanston police said in a community alert.

Since the city of Evanston has been unable to locate or authenticate the source of the flier, it could be a scam, police said. Residents were warned not have the work performed. Residents who encountered anyone involved in distributing the flier were asked to call police at (847) 866-5000.
