Evanston Police Chief Detains Suspects, Helps Recover Firearm

(STMW) -- A Des Plaines man faces felony charges after officers recovered a gun and the Evanston chief of police assisted in his arrest Thursday afternoon in the northern suburb.

Alexander Daniel, 31, faces one Class 4 felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to a statement from Evanston police.

Evanston Chief of Police Richard Eddington was in the area of Greenbay Road and Simpson Street when two women reported a vehicle was following them, police said.

Eddington located the vehicle in the 2100 block of Wesley Avenue and, after detaining two suspects, assisting officers recovered a firearm that had been thrown from the vehicle, police said.

Daniel, of the 10100 block of Holly Lane in Des Plaines, is next scheduled to appear in court July 8, police said. Bond information was not immediately available.
