Evanston Man Dies In Apparent Accident With Loaded Shotgun

(CBS) -- An Evanston man is dead in what appears to have been a tragic accident, reports WBBM's Regine Schlesinger.

Police say they were called to an apartment in the 800 block of Howard Street just before midnight and found a 31-year-old man on the floor, a gunshot wound to his head.

Friends who called 911 told police that the man, identified by the medical examiner as Eric Zyzanski, had pulled out a shotgun and was showing it off to them. They became alarmed and urged him to put the gun away. Instead, he pulled out two-to-three-rounds, told his friends the gun was empty, put it to his cheek and pulled the trigger.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
