Entertainment Legend Berry Gordy Brings 'Motown The Musical' To Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Music legend Berry Gordy was in Chicago on Thursday, promoting a tribute to the Motown sound that will open on stage here next month.

"These children can sing," said "Motown the Musical" director Charles Randolph Wright as he joined Berry Gordy to introduce the cast of the Tony-nominated show that's kicking off its first national tour in Chicago next month.

Gordy premiered the musical on Broadway a year ago.

"Original Motown members Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, and many people came to that opening, and they actually cried; because they remembered the truth of them coming up, and what they did, and how they did it," Gordy said.

Motown the Musical opens on April 22 for a 12-week run at the Ford Oriental Theatre before it moves on to other cities.
