Englewood Woman Found A 3-Foot Python In Apartment

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman found a 3-foot python in her Englewood neighborhood apartment Monday night on the South Side.

Latoria Poe said this is the third time a reptile has been found in her apartment building, located in the 6500 block of South Normal. The most recent happened Monday night, when Poe found a snake in her toilet, CBS 2's Lauren Victory reports.

Poe called police and Chicago Animal Care and Control responded to the scene and took possession of the snake.

The woman was not injured, police said.

Tenants said the reason for the serpents are to be from a previous resident who bred snakes. The woman moved out, but may have left some snakes behind.

However the snakes are arriving in the building, residents are not happy that it is becoming the norm.

"It should not be three times in a place you pay rent," Poe said. 'It should not be like that."

CBS 2 called the property management company and a representative told CBS that they are aware of the snake issue and are cooperating with police.

East Lake Management Group also told CBS 2 that it is working to find an independent pest control company to perform an extermination in the building.
