Englewood Building Collapses

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A building in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood collapsed Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the building in at 5617 S. Halsted St. shortly after 8:30 a.m.

An attached building completely collapsed, fire officials said. Nearby cars were also damaged.

No injuries were reported.

The Department of Buildings had Chicago Police close the road to traffic as they demolished the building. Chicago Transit Authority buses were also rerouted.

An inspection determined the failure of a bow truss roof system was to blame for the collapse, the Department of Buildings said.
